SONG WRITING & MUSIC TECHNOLOGY

A two day workshop, ideal for Transition Year students and young adults.

The purpose of the workshop is to facilitate a space where students can have fun working in groups and be creative through music and technology. The end objective is a finished song that they have written, performed and recorded themselves.

History and origins of Singing/Songwriting
Examples of different genres of contemporary songs.
Considering the various components that go into making a great song (ie. melodies, lyrics, themes, instrumentation, rhythms)
Using examples to highlight the various arrangements and methods implemented.
Basic introduction to sound recording, incl: software, technical jargon, microphones & production.

Students form their own bands, pick a theme and a specific style/genre and start working on their song. There are templates and creative writing exercises to help them on their way.

After the lyrical and musical themes have been developed the song is ready to be recorded

The song will be available in digital format for each participant of the workshop.
